LSU Office of Research & Economic Development
Faculty Travel Grant (FTG) Program
Call for 2007-2008
TO: All Faculty Members (Tenure-track and Research)
SUBJECT: Faculty Travel Grant Applications for Travel to Professional, Data-Gathering or Funding Opportunity Meetings
DEADLINE: Applications will be accepted until May 31 for travel through June 30, 2008.
The Office of Research & Economic Development is now accepting applications from members of the faculty for reimbursable expenses for participation in research meetings to be undertaken between July 1, 2007, and June 30, 2008. Awards will consist of a maximum of $750 for domestic meetings and $1,000 for international travel, although in no case can the award exceed the cost of travel and other allowable expenses incurred in connection with the meeting. Should the conference sponsor at any time provide support to the traveler, this amount must be disclosed and will be applied to the balance of the trip before the expenditure of LSU funds. These grants allow faculty to present original research at national and international conferences, conduct data-gathering trips, and make confirmed visits to program directors at federal funding agencies. Please consider these criteria when submitting an application.
- Applications will be considered for a maximum of one travel award per fiscal year. Applications must be submitted at least one month prior to the meeting. Exceptions may be made in extenuating circumstances. Applications submitted after the meeting will not be accepted.
- Funding for international travel will be considered only on an every-other-year basis. Applicants may alternate domestic and travel abroad, but are limited to funding for one trip per fiscal year.
- Funding will only be awarded for personal presentation of original work of one's own scholarship, data gathering trips, or scheduled and confirmed visits with program directors at federal agencies.
- Higher priority will be given for travel awards to present work at conferences that have a national or international, rather than regional, audience. Applications to attend conferences with restricted participation will receive lower priority.
- Higher priority will be given for travel awards to federal agencies that include a specific purpose and an acknowledgment from the federal agency (letter or e-mail).
- Data gathering trips must be strongly justified and accompanied by a research plan and time-line. Eligibility: All members of the faculty (tenure-track and research) of departments that participate in LSU’s indirect cost return program. Faculty on leave without pay are not eligible unless approved as an exception by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies. A letter, via e-mail to Vice Chancellor Brooks Keel (bkeel@lsu.edu) requesting the exception, must be sent. Faculty are only eligible for one data-gathering stipend.
Please refer to the State of Louisiana travel guidelines for additional policies and procedures regarding research travel.
