NSF Graduate Stem Fellows in K-12 Education

ORED INFO The RFP for the NSF Graduate Stem Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) program has been announced. An organization may submit at most one proposal in a given year.

If you plan to submit a proposal, send an email to dcarver@lsu.edu with a copy to hcarruth@lsu.edu with “NSF Graduate Stem Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12)” as the subject line by April 13, 2009. You will receive an acknowledgment of your email no later than April 15, 2009. If you do not receive the acknowledgment, contact me at 578-5833.

Include a 250 word description of your proposal in the body of the email.

After April 13, we will determine whether we need to hold an internal selection process.

One proposal per institution.

Institutions having an active or past GK-12 project are eligible to submit a new proposal, but they must coordinate evaluation efforts of any projects located on the same campus or working with the same school districts. They must also specify the outcomes, lessons learned, best practices, and sustainability efforts of prior projects. Renewal proposals will not be accepted.

In any single round of the BRC competition, only one proposal may be submitted from any individual collection within an organization. Organizations that house multiple collections, submitting proposals from more than one collection, should engage in internal planning activities in order to prioritize the needs of the several collections such that the organization does not submit a multiplicity of proposals to any one BRC competition.

There is a limit of four (4) preliminary proposals that may be submitted by an institution either as a single institution or as a lead institution in a multi-institution preliminary proposal.

A multi-institutional proposal is defined as one that has at least one co-PI at a different academic institution than that of the PI, a subaward to a different academic institution than that of the PI, or both.

An institution, on its own or as a member of a consortium, may submit no more than one Noyce proposal per track. There are two Noyce tracks in this solicitation: the Noyce Teacher Scholarship Track and the NSF Teaching Fellows/Master Teaching Fellows Track. This limitation is independent of the limitation for Innovation through Institutional Integration (I3) proposals indicated below.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Talent Expansion Program

ORED INFO The STEP RFP indicates that if an institution previously has been the lead institution on a STEP Type 1 award, then the institution is not eligible to submit a Type 1 proposal. LSU is the lead on a STEP Type 1 proposal; therefore, LSU is only eligible to submit a Type 1B or Type 1C proposal.

An institution that awards baccalaureate degrees is allowed to submit only one Type 1 proposal, or to be part of only one consortium submitting a Type 1 proposal. An institution that awards associate degrees, and does not award baccalaureate degrees, is allowed to be the lead institution on only one Type 1 proposal, and, in addition, may be a partner on one or more Type 1 proposals. There are no restrictions on the number of Type 2 proposals that an individual or organization may submit.

Amounts can range from $2 million to $15 million.
